WE HAVE A FILM. A Foo Fighters Film.

For the past four to six months, I've shared updates about Out of the Wishing Well - Stories - Memories - Foo Fighters. Small wins. Big headaches. A lot of waiting.  

Today I get to say something better than "we're close."

We have a film.

The hardest part was not the camera

Most people think the hard part of making a music documentary is the shooting. Or the editing. For me, it was the sound.

The picture was locked. The story worked. But a movie is only half done when the picture stops changing. Sound is the other half. Music tells you how to feel before anyone on screen says a word. Get it wrong and a good scene falls flat. Get it right and a simple shot can give you chills.

So sound design became the mountain I had to climb.

Finding composers who could hear what I was hearing took real time. Some were fantastic players who didn't fit the story. Some got the mood but missed the pacing. A rockumentary moves in a certain way. It breathes with the music. If the score fights the cut, you feel it even if you can't explain why. I kept looking. I kept listening. I turned down music that a lot of people would have been happy with.

I want to be honest about something. I did use some tracks from sound libraries, and I'd do it again.

Library music gets a bad name it doesn't deserve. It's fast, it's affordable, and some of it is genuinely great. For an independent filmmaker working with a small budget, it's a smart tool. There's no shame in using it well.

But I never wanted it to be the whole film.

Why original music mattered so much.

Here's the thing about making a film that touches the Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl. These are people who built a career on doing it themselves. Loud, honest, hand-made work. A film about that can't sound like it came off a shelf.

The moments in this movie are mine. They're personal. Borrowed music, no matter how good, always belongs to somebody else's idea first. I wanted at least part of this score to exist only because this film exists.

That was the goal on day one. Original music, written for these scenes, for this story.

I'm happy to say I hit that goal.

What comes next...

There's still work ahead. Final mixing, color, and the last round of polish.

But the shape of it is done. 17 minutes. My story with a band that has meant a lot to my life. The plan is a 2026 release.
